ART LAGROUNI

The Artist

Born in Fez, Morocco in 1956, Ali Lagrouni is a Geneva-based abstract expressionist whose paintings are windows into emotions of life, identity, and homeland.

A conservatory percussionist, he gives jazz music an overwhelming voice in his brush—his singular blues and warm metaphors echoing the heritage of Moroccan masters like Hassan Glaoui and Jilali Gharbaoui.

Self-taught, his first paintings emerged as nostalgic expressions of his youth near the old Moorish capital. Freely transcending figuration and abstraction, his work is an affirmation of identity, constantly redefining balance in this world.
